President Lincoln's son Robert was a golfer, and legend has it that he did not tip his caddies well. According to to one story he gave a black caddie a nickel when a quarter was the standard tip. The caddie took the coin and stared at it, a disappointed look on his face. "What's the matter?" Lincoln was supposed to have asked him. "I'd have thought my father did enough for you people." To which the caddie replied, "I wouldn't know about that. I never caddied for your old man."
