Bertha Bowen was a mentor and friend of Babe Zaharias. “She had a hard life,” said Bowen. “I mean, her life was really hard and rough, but Babe was always grateful for everything good that happened to her. She faced not being welcome, not being wanted, and she was determined to break that barrier. She was fighting a system and she won.”
