Hall of Famer Tommy Armour writing about Bobby Jones in American Golfer in 1935: "Bob and I used to play a lot of golf together. Our friendly matches almost invariably were gentle, pleasant little affairs. Yes, just like the Dempsey-Firpo fight. By the fourth hole we were not talking to each other. We played to the finish in silence as heavy as that of the half-a-minute-before-the-zero-hour. But when the game was ended and we were in the locker room engaged in that happy rite having to do with the disposal of the mellow Georgia corn unlaxer, hostilities were forgotten in the most delightful moments I’ve ever spent in golf clubhouses."
